spotlight on design
First concept sketch layout for Hugh Town high street, Isles of Scilly.
The Council of the Isles of Scilly has commissioned design work to reimagine the island’s main high street. Various options are being put forward for early discussion. Depending on the outcome of these discussions further design options may be explored.
Design review and concept suggestions for Leagrave Road, Luton.
ActivePlanning was asked to review emerging designs for a signalised junction upgrade in Leagrave Road.
Several design review and discussion meetings were held, and the drawing shown is one of a series of sketch options prepared for the borough council.
The final design is still in preparation. The concept design was influenced by issues of capacity, carriageway width and tracked turns for the vehicles using the route. A new right turn ban will be introduced as a result of the discussions, to give space for improved pedestrian and cycle infrastructure.
Design of Bermondsey Street and St Thomas Street, London Bridge.
Team London Bridge commissioned several design options to enable contraflow cycling on St Thomas’ Street and Bermondsey Street which included removal of the existing signalised junction and introduction of one way stepped cycle tracks or cycle lanes, with cycles travelling within the main carriageway in the opposite direction. Red surfacing would be used to highlight the cycle ways to minimise potential conflicts between cyclists and drivers who may not be expecting contra flowing cyclists.
